Job Description
As a General Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include providing comprehensive customer service, ensuring effective merchandising of stock, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping within your designated areas. You will be instrumental in advising customers, resolving queries, and contributing to an efficient and welcoming store environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Advise and assist customers with product selection and queries.
- Support the resolution of customer complaints.
Merchandising Standards
- Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and in line with store layout plans.
- Maintain a fully merchandised area of responsibility according to store layout and planograms.
Housekeeping
- Keep your assigned area free of obstructions, ensuring stock is merchandised promptly upon receipt.
- Guarantee customer aisles are clear and safe for access.
- Implement correct shelf price labelling within your area.
- Complete required checklists and schedules, including canteen and toilet/shower upkeep.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Adhere to all OHSA compliance standards, including the use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of customers and staff.
- Merchandise stock in racking and bulk areas to allow for safe movement of customers and colleagues within the store.
- Report any safety discrepancies or hazards to the Store Manager immediately.
Stock Loss Management
- Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3, plus one year of relevant work experience; OR
- Grade 12 without prior work experience.
- Proficiency in English and the dominant language spoken in the Grahamstown area.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
