Accountant – Finance Projects

Cashbuild is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Accountant to join our team in Johannesburg, South Africa, focusing on Finance Projects. This role is crucial for maintaining financial integrity and ensuring compliance with controls and policies throughout project execution. Reporting to the Senior Financial Manager Projects, you will play a key part in accurate financial record-keeping, insightful financial analysis, and comprehensive support for all project-related finance activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an accounting or financial role.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting and control.
  • Exposure to finance processes and systems within a shared services or project environment would be a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience working within the retail industry or a similar sector is desirable.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (e.g., BCom Accounting, BCom Finance).
  • Currently pursuing or having completed a relevant professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, SAIPA, or SAICA would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Financial Processing and Record-Keeping: Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and system integrations for various business projects. This includes managing project expenses, revenue recognition, and cost allocations. You will also assist in preparing project-related financial reports.
  • Support in Feasibility Assessments: Provide essential financial data to aid in evaluating the financial viability of projects. Work collaboratively with the Financial Manager to ensure project costs and financial projections align with budgetary requirements.
  • Assist in Return on Investment (ROI) Calculations: Gather and process the necessary financial data to support ROI calculations. You will help monitor financial performance against anticipated returns.
  • Cost and Breakeven Analysis: Conduct basic cost analysis and contribute to determining breakeven points for projects. Proactively identify opportunities for cost savings and report these findings to the Financial Manager.
  • Project Financial Support: Provide dedicated financial oversight support to the Financial Manager for ongoing business projects. This includes assisting with financial documentation, tracking project expenses, and ensuring adherence to budgets.
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT) – Finance Perspective: Engage in UAT from a finance viewpoint to validate financial system integrations. Identify any discrepancies and report issues promptly to the Financial Manager for resolution.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare financial reports and assist with variance analysis for project financials. Uphold compliance with financial policies, controls, and audit requirements. Support internal and external audits by providing all necessary documentation.
  • Handover to Operational Finance Team: Collaborate with the Financial Manager to facilitate seamless financial transitions of projects from their implementation to operational phases. Provide essential financial documentation and support to the operational finance teams.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all financial transactions.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and ERP platforms; experience with SAP is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills to effectively contribute to financial modelling and reporting.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage productively with various stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills, crucial for financial reporting and stakeholder interactions.
  • A solid understanding of financial policies, compliance frameworks, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant financial reporting tools.
