Cashbuild is seeking a driven individual to join our team as a Trainee Manager in Malamulele, Limpopo, South Africa. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional looking to develop their leadership skills and grow within the retail sector.
Position Overview
The primary focus of this role is to protect and grow profitable market share within a store, aligning with the strategic objectives of the store, division, and the company as a whole. As a Trainee Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to gain comprehensive experience across all facets of retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Management
- Assist the Store Manager in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive Store Business Plan, ensuring alignment with the company’s overarching strategy and initiatives.
Market Share Growth and Protection
- Support the Store Manager in achieving market share growth targets as outlined in the strategy plan.
- Contribute to achieving sales budgets and growth objectives across all product categories.
- Assist in promoting customer loyalty programs, such as VIC and charge cards.
- Help manage the distribution of advertising materials for maximum efficiency.
- Develop proactive action plans to protect market share when competitors enter the territory.
Customer Service Excellence
- Aid in the implementation and monitoring of the Customer Service strategy.
- Contribute to maintaining Customer Audit scores above 95%.
- Support the provision of reliable and prompt customer delivery services.
- Assist in growing and maintaining the VIC client base.
- Help achieve transaction budget goals.
- Recommend range improvements to better suit market demands.
- Assist in implementing action plans based on customer survey feedback.
Asset Control: Stock Management
- Support the Store Manager in managing and controlling store shrinkage.
- Assist in managing the Perpetual Inventory Count (PIC) process.
- Contribute to the management of wall-to-wall stock takes.
- Oversee and control stock movement within the store, including End Control, Inter-Branch Transfers (IBTs), Customer Returns, and Receiving processes.
Asset Control: Cash Management
- Assist the Store Manager in managing debtors and represent-on-due (RD) cheques.
- Support the management of petty cash.
- Contribute to the management of daily banking procedures.
- Assist in managing discrepancies in cash handling (shorts and overs).
- Support the management of cheque and credit card transactions.
Asset Control: Fixed Assets
- Assist the Store Manager in the maintenance and protection of racking, displays, and signage (internal and external).
- Support the maintenance of forklifts and generators.
- Contribute to the maintenance and protection of IT equipment and telephone systems.
- Assist in the maintenance and protection of the store’s safe.
Human Resource Management
- Support the recruitment and induction of all store employees.
- Ensure training and development programs are effectively implemented within the store.
- Assist in establishing succession planning and career pathing initiatives.
- Manage manpower requirements in line with divisional and store strategies, as well as company benchmarks.
- Facilitate open communication and positive relations with the Store Employee Committee through initiatives like CARE Meetings and CB Mail.
- Support the management of employee relations.
Store Safety (OHSA) Standards
- Assist the Store Manager in ensuring adherence to local OHSA legislation and/or that of neighbouring countries.
- Ensure safety checklists are completed and Safety Representatives are appointed as per the OHSA Act.
- Support the reporting and recording of all safety incidents.
Store Trading Standards
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within the store.
- Manage merchandising standards and implement correct planograms.
- Ensure the upkeep of yard and parking areas.
Profitability Management
- Assist the Store Manager in achieving the operating income budget.
- Manage the store in accordance with the financial model, benchmarks, and budgets.
CB Way Adherence
- Support the achievement of audit benchmarks by monitoring adherence to company standard compliance.
- Implement and maintain necessary controls and disciplines.
- Assist in implementing Corrective Action Plans where required.
Requirements
- Grade 12 qualification.
- A minimum of two years of retail management experience is essential.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A valid South African ID or a valid work permit.
- Strong accounting skills.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Proficiency in basic computer literacy.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
- Excellent administrative skills.
- Must possess own reliable transport and a cell phone.
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, including OHSA and/or relevant neighbouring country legislation.
- Strong Human Resources skills.
