Warehouse Supervisor at Value Logistics

Value Logistics is seeking a dedicated and experienced Warehouse Supervisor to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the entire picking function and inventory control processes within our warehouse. You’ll lead a team of both permanent and outsourced pickers, ensuring adherence to all procedures, achievement of productivity targets, and the accurate and timely fulfillment of customer orders. This position is pivotal in fostering discipline, driving efficiency, implementing system-driven picking, and maintaining high standards for safety, compliance, and productivity, all while supporting the broader warehouse operations to deliver a dependable and cost-effective service.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Provide guidance, support, and supervision to both permanent and outsourced picking staff.
  • Cultivate a controlled, disciplined, and highly efficient work environment.
  • Conduct daily check-ins with your team to review progress, productivity, and any emerging challenges.
  • Ensure all picking activities strictly adhere to established processes and warehouse standards.
  • Verify that pickers follow system-driven instructions and select inventory from the correct locations.
  • Perform regular, random accuracy checks (item and quantity) to uphold superior picking accuracy.
  • Drive picking output to consistently meet or exceed required productivity targets.
  • Collaborate closely with warehouse planners to synchronize picking schedules with dispatch timelines.
  • Ensure timely completion of picking to prevent dispatch delays, additional transportation costs, and negative impacts on customer service.
  • Monitor the condition and functionality of equipment, including pallet jacks and handheld scanners.
  • Oversee the accurate execution of all administrative processes within the picking zone.
  • Submit daily reports detailing productivity, progress, delays, challenges, and accuracy metrics.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of staff performance and any procedural deviations.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, train, and motivate your picking staff effectively.
  • Enforce company policies, Health & Safety regulations, and disciplinary procedures consistently.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, toolbox talks, and provide constructive feedback to foster continuous improvement.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory levels.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, picking timeliness, and stock discrepancies.
  • Maintain essential documentation for compliance with internal and external audits.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to all occupational health and safety standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement necessary corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
  • Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.

Housekeeping Standards

  • Maintain impeccable cleanliness and organization throughout the warehouse at all times.
  • Ensure all aisles, picking areas, and storage zones are free from obstructions and potential hazards.
  • Implement and enforce daily housekeeping schedules for all staff members.
  • Monitor compliance with hygiene and safety standards, including proper waste and packaging material disposal.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any potential risks or cleanliness issues.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) are stored correctly and kept in good condition.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
  • Picking experience within a warehouse setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or team-leader capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field is highly preferred.

Skills Requirements

  • Exceptional supervisory and people-management capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), MS Office Suite, and inventory control practices.
  • Strong literacy and numerical aptitude.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • A mindset focused on system-driven processes and operational efficiency.
