Cashbuild is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Forklift Driver to join our team in Pretoria. This role is crucial for maintaining efficient operations within the store, ensuring stock is handled correctly, and providing excellent customer service.

About the Role

As a Forklift Driver, your primary responsibility will be to operate and maintain the forklift in a safe and cost-effective manner. You will also play a key role in delivering comprehensive customer service, merchandising stock accurately, managing shelf pricing, and ensuring a high standard of housekeeping within your designated area.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Acknowledge all customers, understand their needs, and provide accurate product advice.
  • Assist customers with product queries and promptly address any complaints.
  • Promote add-on sales, such as paint accessories or thinners.
  • Ensure efficient loading of customer purchases without delay, taking care not to damage goods or customer vehicles.
  • Inform customers about additional services like delivery, glass cutting, credit programs, and special orders.
  • Be knowledgeable about all products and available in your assigned aisle.

Merchandising Standards:

  • Maintain the bulk stock area safely and in line with store layout plans.
  • Ensure your area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to store layouts and planograms.
  • Merchandise stock according to approved layouts and planograms.

Housekeeping:

  • Keep your area free of obstacles, merchandise stock immediately upon receipt, and ensure safe customer access.
  • Ensure correct shelf price labelling within your area.
  • Complete required checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules when on duty.

Ready for Business:

  • Adhere to “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” standards as per the CB Way.

Loss Prevention and Security:

  • Identify display gaps, investigate causes, and report concerns to management.
  • Be vigilant for suspicious behaviour and report any concerns to management.
  • Ensure proof of purchase or required documentation before loading customer products.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements:

  • Operate the forklift safely, avoiding overloading.
  • Do not overload racking and shelving (e.g., stack roof tiles/bricks and cement no more than two pallets high).
  • Wear safety helmet and kidney belt at all times when operating the forklift.
  • Do not use the forklift to lift personnel.
  • Ensure entrances and exits are clear of obstacles for safe customer access.
  • Report any forklift faults immediately and schedule necessary services promptly.
  • Wear protective clothing when necessary.
  • Do not operate the forklift if mechanical faults are present.
  • Conduct daily forklift inspections, complete checklists, and report any faults.

Requirements for the Role

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language of the operating area.
  • Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Physically fit to operate a forklift.
  • A valid forklift license is essential.
