Key Responsibilities
As a General Assistant, your primary focus will be on delivering comprehensive customer service within the store. This includes:
- Customer Service Excellence: Actively advising and assisting customers with their product selection and inquiries. You will also be responsible for helping to resolve customer complaints effectively and efficiently.
- Merchandising Standards: Ensuring stock is accurately merchandised, shelves are correctly priced, and the overall presentation of your designated area meets store standards. This involves maintaining the bulk stock area safely and in line with the store layout plan, as well as ensuring your specific section is fully merchandised according to layout and planograms.
- Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment within your area of responsibility. This means ensuring aisles are free of obstacles, stock is promptly merchandised upon receipt, and customers can navigate the store safely and without irritation. Accurate shelf price labelling is also a key component. You will be required to complete checklists as needed, including schedules for the canteen and toilet/shower areas.
- Safety Compliance (OHSA): Adhering to all Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements, including the proper use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and colleagues. You will be responsible for ensuring that stock in your designated area, both on shelves and in bulk storage, is merchandised in a way that allows for safe movement within the store. Any discrepancies or safety concerns should be promptly reported to the Store Manager.
- Stock Management: Reporting any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this General Assistant position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A minimum of Grade 10 (NQF 3) with at least one year of relevant work experience, OR
- A Grade 12 qualification with no prior work experience.
- Strong communication skills in both English and the dominant local language spoken in the Brits geographical area.
- Possession of a valid South African ID or work permit.
- The ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- The ability to perform effectively under pressure.
