Key Responsibilities

Sales & Market Growth

  • Drive sales by issuing and diligently following up on quotations.
  • Manage the quotation process and oversee special orders.
  • Ensure accurate estimations and cutting lists are completed within agreed timeframes.
  • Conduct competitor analysis to maintain store competitiveness.
  • Minimise wastage and customer complaints through precise machine calibration and accurate interpretation of cutting lists.
  • Oversee daily cleaning and preventative maintenance of machinery.
  • Promote Loyalty Programmes, including VIC and Charge Card customers.
  • Achieve market share growth in line with company benchmarks.
  • Develop proactive action plans to protect market share when competitors emerge.

Deliveries & Customer Service

  • Manage an efficient delivery service, ensuring correct rates are charged and deliveries are dispatched within required time limits.
  • Communicate proactively with customers regarding any delayed deliveries and make appropriate arrangements.
  • Implement and monitor the Customer Service Strategy to ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Grow and maintain the customer and VIC client base.
  • Recommend range improvements to better suit market needs.
  • Take decisive action on customer survey feedback by implementing action plans.
  • Ensure effective employee scheduling to provide outstanding customer service.

Asset & Financial Control

  • Manage stock ordering, shrinkage control, and Wall-to-Wall Stock-Takes.
  • Address issues related to damaged, obsolete, and slow-moving stock.
  • Analyse security requirements and implement necessary changes.
  • Manage debtors, petty cash, daily banking, shorts and overs, and credit cards.
  • Ensure the maintenance and protection of all fixed assets, including racking, displays, signage, forklifts, generators, cutting and edge machinery, IT equipment, telephone systems, safes/vaults, and items listed on the Asset Register.

Human Resource Management

  • Recruit and induct all employees, ensuring comprehensive training and development programmes are in place.
  • Manage manpower requirements in line with company benchmarks.
  • Foster open communication and maintain positive relations with the Store Employee Forum.
  • Manage employee relations and oversee performance management processes.

Safety & Compliance

  • Manage safety aspects in accordance with local legislation (OHSA) and neighbouring countries’ legislation.
  • Ensure all safety checklists are completed.
  • Appoint Safety and First Aid Representatives as per OHSA.
  • Report incidents to line management and the risk department, taking immediate action on any non-compliance.
  • Record all OHASA incidents and ensure all Forklift Operators hold valid licenses.
  • Verify that workshop staff are signed off as compliant and ensure the safe working condition of all safety equipment.
  • Monitor adherence to company standard compliance within the store.
  • Implement and maintain controls, disciplines, and corrective action plans (PIP) where necessary.

Quality & Estimating

  • Minimise wastage through effective quality control of the cutting and edging process, and accurate machine calibration.
  • Ensure quality control in reading and interpreting cutting lists.
  • Perform accurate estimating calculations based on customer specifications.
  • Provide customers with precise estimates and generate accurate picking/cutting lists according to customer requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Grade 12 qualification with at least three years of relevant retail/wholesale management experience, or five years of related retail/wholesale experience.
  • Experience in carpentry products, cutting, and edging would be a distinct advantage.
  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • Well-developed Business Acumen.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Strong Leadership Skills.
  • Strong Administrative Skills.
  • Must possess own transport and a cell phone.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety aspects in line with local (OHSA) and/or neighbouring countries’ legislation.
