Forklift Driver – Cashbuild Holfontein

Are you a skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Driver with a passion for excellent customer service? Cashbuild, a leading retailer in building materials, is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team at our Holfontein branch. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and safe handling of stock, contributing to a positive customer experience, and maintaining high standards within the store.

Key Responsibilities

As a Forklift Driver at Cashbuild, your primary duties will involve the safe and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the forklift. You will also be instrumental in providing comprehensive customer service, including merchandising stock, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining excellent housekeeping within your designated area.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Customer Service Excellence:
    • Proactively acknowledge all customers and identify their needs.
    • Provide accurate product advice and assist with customer queries.
    • Address customer complaints promptly and effectively.
    • Drive add-on sales by suggesting related products.
    • Ensure efficient customer service by loading purchases without delay and with care to prevent damage to goods or vehicles.
    • Inform customers about our additional services, such as delivery, glass cutting, credit programmes, and special orders.
    • Maintain certified product knowledge and remain available in your assigned aisle.
  • Merchandising Standards:
    • Organise bulk stock areas safely and in line with store layout plans.
    • Ensure your area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to store layouts and planograms.
  • Housekeeping:
    • Maintain a clean and obstacle-free area.
    • Merchandise stock immediately upon receipt.
    • Ensure customers can navigate aisles safely and without irritation.
    • Maintain correct shelf price labelling.
    • Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules.
  • Ready for Business:
    • Adhere to Cashbuild’s “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” standards.
  • Loss Prevention and Security:
    • Identify display gaps, investigate causes, and report concerns to management.
    • Report any suspicious behaviour or individuals to management.
    • Ensure proof of purchase or required documentation before loading any product for a customer.
  • Safety (OHSA) Requirements:
    • Operate the forklift responsibly, avoiding overloading.
    • Adhere to safe stacking limits for racking and shelving.
    • Always wear your safety helmet and kidney belt when operating the forklift.
    • Never use the forklift to lift personnel.
    • Ensure entrances and exits are clear for safe customer access.
    • Immediately report any forklift faults or upcoming service needs.
    • Wear protective clothing as required.
    • Do not operate the forklift with mechanical faults.
    • Conduct daily forklift inspections, complete checklists, and report any findings.

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language.
  • Proficiency in basic calculations.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Physical fitness suitable for operating a forklift.
  • A valid forklift license.
