General Assistant – Cashbuild – Cape Town

We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused General Assistant to join the Cashbuild team in Cape Town. This role is crucial in ensuring a positive and efficient shopping experience for our customers while maintaining high standards of store presentation and safety. Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Provide comprehensive customer service within the store.
  • Advise and assist customers with product selections and inquiries.
  • Help resolve customer complaints effectively.

Merchandising and Housekeeping:

  • Ensure all stock is merchandised safely and according to store layout plans and planograms.
  • Maintain your designated area of responsibility with correct shelf price labelling.
  • Keep your area of responsibility clean and free of obstacles, ensuring stock is merchandised promptly after receipt.
  • Ensure customers can navigate aisles without risk of injury or irritation.
  • Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules.

Safety and Stock Management:

  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) requirements, including the use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of customers and staff.
  • Ensure stock in both racking and bulk areas is merchandised safely for customers and colleagues.
  • Report any discrepancies or damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager immediately.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 qualification with at least one year of relevant work experience, OR
  • Grade 12 qualification with no prior work experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant language spoken in the Cape Town geographical area.
  • A valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
