Cashbuild is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused General Assistant to join our team in Germiston, Gauteng. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to our store operations and provide excellent service to our valued customers.

Job Description

As a General Assistant, your primary role will be to ensure a seamless and positive customer experience within the store. This includes maintaining high standards of merchandising, accurate shelf pricing, and impeccable housekeeping within your designated areas. You will be instrumental in keeping our store organised and welcoming for everyone.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Offer expert advice and assistance to customers regarding our product range and address any queries they may have.
  • Skillfully handle and resolve customer complaints to ensure satisfaction.

Merchandising Standards:

  • Organise and maintain bulk stock areas safely and in line with the store’s layout plan.
  • Ensure your assigned section is fully merchandised according to store layout guidelines and planograms.

Housekeeping:

  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free environment in your area, ensuring stock is merchandised promptly after receipt.
  • Guarantee customers can navigate aisles safely and comfortably, free from any obstruction or irritation.
  • Accurately label shelves with correct pricing.
  • Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules, during your shifts.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements:

  • Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations, including the proper use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and staff within your area.
  • Ensure racking and bulk stock areas are merchandised in a manner that allows customers and colleagues to move safely throughout the store.
  • Promptly report any safety discrepancies or concerns to the Store Manager.

Stock Management:

  • Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager without delay.

Requirements

To be successful in this General Assistant role, you will need:

  • A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF Level 3, coupled with at least one year of relevant work experience; OR
  • A Grade 12 qualification with no prior related work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and the dominant local language spoken in the Germiston area.
  • A valid South African ID or work permit.
  • The ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • A willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • The capacity to perform effectively under pressure.
